What we don't want to encourage

Do note that the following post is merely the opinion of the author of calcSD.

While looking for alternatives to TheVisualiser.net in order to add to the "Other Links" section of Dvisualizer, I found a website that offers quite a bit of the functionality that TheVisualiser.net used to have, and it's called "Penis Comparator".

However, while I'd love to recommend it simply on the basis of its functionality and usability, there are many problems with it, particularly with the content in that site, for instance:

  1. The site offers a selection of datasets of poor quality, such as:
    • Self-reported data aggregated by themselves;
    • Self-reported data provided by pornstars (many of which are exaggerated);
    • A collection of two studies from condom manufacturers, which while better and usually good enough, they are not replacements for medical studies;
    • A collection of King et al. 2019 and Kinsey et al. 1948 which also present self-reported data.

    They make no attempt to use any of the many more studies available worldwide, and not even any of the aggregate studies which combine these together.

  2. The site uses a chart from penissizedebate, another old self-reported source of data, which wrongly promotes the idea that the average dick size is unsatisfying to most women and that most women's ideal size is around 8.0"x6.5" rather than our most recent analysis which suggests something around 6.5"x5.0" instead, which is still large and certainly larger than the average but at least not ridiculously so.

  3. The site consistently advertises products and resources targeted towards penis enlargment.

These points combined make me believe this website mostly echos existing misconceptions about penis sizes by exaggerating not only the actual average but more importantly, the average preferred size, and in doing so, it benefits from most men's insecurities by providing them with advertisements to misleadingly "help them out" achieve a much larger size under false pretenses.

Because of these problems, I cannot recommend this website at all. If you do want to use it, of course, I cannot stop you or anyone else. I just ask for you take it with a grain of salt. Likewise, calcSD will refrain from directly linking to sites that we have the same concerns for as the one mentioned above.
